Glenn- the words 'pitted a bit' mean to me it is a normal condition rifle in good shape. Firelapping is easy and only takes 5 to 40 rounds depending on the 'conditon'. I usually only firelapp if the bore looks really bad and normal lead lapping can't 'save' it. My M71/76 Mauser is case-in-point with a horrid, sewer pipe condition (looked worse than that). The bore was salvaged enough by firelapping with 40 rounds, that it now puts out 5 shot 3" groups at 100 meters with black powder or smokeless. With it's short 20" carbine barrel I'm quite tickled by it's accuracy. Original sights being used, of course. What this shows, is that many bores in very bad conditon can be saved & I believe this one is one of those salvagable ones. |
