I shot my Ruger #1 in 450-400 on the weekend. I also feel that this rifle is a little light for this calibre, although it is quite manageable, I would like to see the rifle weigh about a pound heavier. I obtained cases from Bertram's of Seymour, some woodleigh 400 grain RN and some ADI 2213sc. I have been unable to buy a set of dies, but have borrowed a set. With the 400 grainers coming out at 2140 fps the rifle is quite lively, especially from the bench. With open sights I have been able to put three shots into 2 1/2 inches at 100 yrds. I have also tried some hornady 300 grain 405 winchester projectiles. These are 411 in diameter where as the woodliegh 400 grainers are 410. Did not seem to worry the Ruger and they are a little gentler to shoot than heavier projectile. I thicker limbsaver recoil pad and a mercury recoil reducer should make this rifle a bit more shooter friendly. All I have to do is pick up a set of dies. Any suggestions where I could get a set would be appreciated. |
