Re: Looking for Single Shot Scope Mount Recommendation

Thanks for the input.

Johannsen - Nice. Looks like a strong mount but it might be difficult to adapt for the 1/4 rib.

EAW - I have a few rifles with the swing mounts and I like them. But those blocks would stick out beyond the sides of the rib. Also, the EAWs I have now are very difficult to clean internally and tend to rust between the mounts and the gun. I'll look into the Ruger adaption. If the rib can be milled for the Ruger setup then the EAW for Ruger mounts might be a nice arrangement. Anyone have experience with the EAW rolloff mounts? Perhaps the rib can be milled for these.

Suhler claw mount - Great mounts but I am worried about rust getting where I cannot reach it. If these are soldered on then it becomes less of a concern. They would still extend beyond the sides of the rib but they do have some nice lines.

Recknagel - also look nice but I have the same concerns.

I am hoping I can find a mount that doesn't require leaving anything behind when the scope is removed. That way I won't have to worry about rusting between the mounts and the gun - I will be in the rain. If something can be milled into, onto, or along the sight rib then I can clean and oil it completely when the scope is removed. Ruger No. 1 mounts work like that but Ruger's rings aren't the best and I don't know if milling out the rib for Ruger rings is practicable.

Thanks again
