That is avery nice rifle. I like the WR 1881. It is very easy to operate, actually quicker than a underlever and much easier when prone.

That is nice! Side lever like a Hepburn, or visa-vis.

That rifle looks very nice.

Was an 1881 .303 black powder or cordite?

Or rebarrelled since?

I believe this rifle was either re-barreled or built on an old action remaining in inventory. It is proofed for Riflite, an early smokeless powder.

That is correct. I have owned both. IMHO, the Deeley 1881 is a much nicer looking action.

Ballpark question
What would be a rough guess at the asking price for one of these? Ruger #1, I understand, but WR single-shot, I know bupkes.

In this configuration, I'd say in the $5-8K range with the usual caveats of chambeing, originality, embellishment, bore condition etc. playing a role in valuation.
They're not exactly common with spans of months to years between good examples coming to market so it's very much a matter of what you or another enthusiast is ready to pay at the time.

I handled this particular rifle.
I'd very much like to have it.
