Having to extract the cases REALLY slowed down the shooting. Your bullet splashes behind the target looked pretty good, accuracy wise, compared to some of the shooters.

A couple of times as you prepared to reshoulder your rifle between shots, I got the impression that you were operating the safety. Was that accurate, and is your rifle equipped with an automatic safety, like many double barrel shotguns? This would not be a good feature to have on a big game rifle, if that is the case.

Looks like you had a lot of fun. I think if you had a break action rifle with an ejector as opposed to the K95 you would have more than doubled your speed.

Yes safety is automatic. So not only do I have to break the action open, I have to pull case out and recock safety every shot as well as shoot target. So everything must go right to fire rapidly. I would not recommend it as DG rifle. But I've shot multiple sambar with it.

If I had a double rifle with rimmed cartidges I'd also double my speed. So I did!

Is it possible to disconnect the auto safety. I've done it on a couple of U/O doubles with no problems.

The safety on the blaser is connected to the firing spring. When you activate the safety you release the tension on the spring. Conversely when you push the safety to fire then you are cocking the spring. Therefore you can't remove the safety otherwise you won't cock the firing spring. Its what makes blasers so safe because when the safety is activated there is no potential energy stored in the system but also a PITA for rapid fire with their break action single and doubles for rapid fire. I just get used to it. The most rapid fire I do is with the combination gun on fox drives and don't worry I'm used to running, extracting and reloading cocking, aiming and firing on running foxes with the hounds quick enough.
I will say this though, I've had to regulate my mates blaser S2 H&H and same issue about extraction with a rimless cartridge. Hence I'd never use one for DG because I'd be fumbling trying to get them out if I was charged and I'd be relying on my PH because I'd never get them out in time to reload.
On the other hand as you see my BBF you just tip those 9.3x74R and they fall out easily.

My Krieghoff Teck O/U double rifle has two sets of rifle barrels in .458 WM and .375 H&H, both rimless cartridges. However, the ejector works flawlessly on both sets of barrels, to the point that finding fired cases is sometimes difficult. At the time I ordered the rifle (1970), those were the only DG calibers offered. I have taken the rifle on three hunts in Africa and used it on four of the Big Five with no difficulties whatsoever. The problem is no so much the rimless cartridge, but the question of ejector vs. extractor.
Incidentally, the present day Krieghoff S/S double rifle has the same manual cocking arrangement as your single shot, except that after the first shots are fired, the rifle automatically cocks itself when the action is opened, so that no further manual cocking is required, which seems like a very sensible feature.

Sounds like a good system.i sometimes wish mine had ejectors because I'm quite happy with the 30-06. 9.3 is fine for me extractors and I've shot multiple deer with it.

Absolutely - appeared to triple your speed - 3 sets of 2, instead of only 2 shots?

What was the competition, a series of two timed double shots, x5 or thereabouts? I didn't count.

Yes meant to be pop up lion competition, except somebody stole the gas bottles so it was permanently up lion, 10 seconds two shots, 5 seconds down. I got into the rhythm but one case failed to fall out which cost me a shot. Other than that it proved it could be done which some people doubted when I told them I wasn't going to use a ruger No 1. Now in a "real" life sambar hunting scenario I've had to do rapid shots on either same target or multi-targets and haven't found it that limited to be honest. Plus its very light at only 2.55kg so makes it very easy to carry all day.

Krieghoff, you maybe know already, offer a single shot break action kipplaufbusch with auto ejector. I think it was introduced in Nurnberg, IWA 2014.
Naturally I wouldn't swap my K95 for one, but do wonder if Blaser will introduce a similar rifle.

I'm better off just buying a 30R or 9.3x74R barrel and problem solved for fast extraction. Cheaper too lol!
