Nice looking rifle! I just can't get excited about that chambering, though. I think it would be much more enticing as a .577 NE with a few pounds shaved off. Just MHO. CptCurl |

Very nice mate, what sort of recoil would you expect from this thing? |

wharf, I am sure it kicks much more than I could handle. I just posted this because the rifle looked really nice and I am sure that there are members here who not only enjoy looking at monsters like this one but also hunt with them. Good hunting! |

Nice link Mehul, The recoil on that would be pretty stout, even for a bigbore nut. For factory loads 2000fps with 1000gn you get about 130ftlbs recoil at that weight. For the reduced 1900fps or so load about 115-120ftlbs. For comparison the factory 460wby runs about 100 ftlbs. Karl. |

Karl, If the recoil worries you, it must be even more frightening than I imagined it would be. I thought the rifle looked really nice and posted it here. The only thing that looked silly to me was the coin in the stock but then I guess whoever paid for it knew what he wanted. Good hunting! |

According to THE BIG BORE RIFLE by McIntosh, a 700 NE in a 19lb rifle will offer 136.37lbs of recoil energy vs. 'only' 105.10 for a 600NE. But, if you think that is bad, flip through CATRIDGES OF THE WORLD, 10th ed and see some of the larger big bore 'proprietary' and wildcat rounds, 158+++ Just my idea of fun, fun, fun. A couple of the latter will make the 700 seem like a 7mm Rem. No charge for nosebleeds on firing. Dave |

Dave, true but if the 700nitro is in a strong action you csn load it back to its own class-over 2600fps with a 1000gn bullet, and recoil more than 200ftlbs from the same weight rifle. This is over 50BMG power so similar weight rifles are indicated. Mehul, about the only thing I would not fire again is full power 500gn 460 wby loads...from the hip. It nearly broke one of my fingers. Karl. |

I wouldn`t shoot a Weatherby .460 mag again under any circumstances. It`s not just the recoil - which is bad enough - but the muzzle blast which is appalling .......good for clearing garbage from the range though. It heads my list as the nastiest piece of **** calibre on the planet. - I just have to know: WHY did you shoot it from the hip ? |

Hey Mehul - `Farky` ? Pronounced `Farson` I presume ? ! |

I have not shot either the .460 or the .378 We'by but the commentary I have read suggests the smaller bore actually has a nastier kick and even a worse muzzle blast. |
