Dang - I was hoping for a top shot with the 'bolt/block' pulled back. The Sharps models of breechloading rifles of 1849 to 1863 used a paper ctg. The action had an outside hammer and a nipple for ignition via cap or compound in a blister on a tape (maynard tape primer). Similar physics, different action. Either this one or the Sharps could be loaded with loose components. Modern made models of the Sharps made in the USA or Italy are available today. Love it. |

Yes - by all means. Beautfully made - custom rifle - maybe a one-off action. there were a number of those totally custom rifles made in the .40's and 50's - maybe even early 60's in Europe prior to the self contained RF and CF ctgs. taking over. This one might have taken ctgs. like the early Maynard, Burnside, Smith or Gallagher, all firing a contained ctg. with bullet, but by a percussion cap as this one appears to be. |

Very Strange. Alex Henry never had a Patent No. 702. I've checked all the known Henry patents (inc provisional patents) and none seem to describe this rifle. There's no mention of it in Winfer's Alex Henry book either. It could be a patent use number for Henry Rifling which was Patent No. 2802 of 1861. |

Beautiful rifle. Don't see evidence of nipple for percussion cap. Top view of breech makes me think pinfire. More information and pics would be great. |
