Shooters and Fishers Party builds in WA Posted on 26 June 2012 by Content Manager The Shooters and Fishers Party is rapidly establishing a presence in Western Australia, packing more than 100 people into the venue for the new branch’s formation meeting last weekend. The meeting was held to elect a steering committee to guide the party towards official registration in the state, which has some of the nation's most onerous restrictions on fishing, firearms, hunting and four-wheel driving. “Fishos were particularly strongly represented among the people who supported us on Saturday,” Rick Mazza, the SFP’s WA representative, said. “That reflects how badly we are treated here in WA, where it’s very hard to find anywhere to fish. “Shooting and other outdoor activities are also heavily restricted and the only way we are going to correct this ridiculous situation is through political action. "Many people travelled long distances to be there, some driving for over five hours to attend, which was indicative of the commitment." NSW MLC Robert Borsak attended as a guest speaker, explaining how the SFP had made breakthroughs in NSW including the establishment of the Game Council, putting a moratorium on new marine parks, and now legalising hunting in national parks. Mr Mazza said it was vital the SFP signs up the 500 members required for registration and pointed to recent wins by the party in NSW, where hunting is to be allowed in national parks and duck shooting reintroduced. “It’s not just about your vote, it’s about being a member to ensure the SFP can contest the next WA election,” Mazza said. “That’s how we will begin to claw back some rights and privileges for hunters, fishers and outdoors enthusiasts in the west.” Source: www.sportingshootermag.com.au http://www.shootersandfishers.org.au/news/shooters-and-fishers-party-builds-in-wa |
