Reminds me of my Tea Planting days in Upper Assam with some of the best teas in the world. We pruned by hand too. I still have the old hook shaped "young tea" pruning knife we use to form the "frame". We removed the branches that grew sideways to encourage leaf growth on the upward growing branches. I presume you leave those on & remove the upward growing branches!?
