Last night the wife and I had a nice quiet dinner at home after putting the Boy to bed. We dined on meat - red meat - my NY strip steak was cooked rare, as was the wife's filet. Accompanying the steakers were roasted red potatoes with rosemary and sauteed brussel sprouts. And then there was the wine. I opened up a wonderful 1997 Dominus about 90 minutes before dinner. The wines from Napa in 1997 were rated a 99 on a 100 point scale and this wine showed that the growing season was perfect that year. It was like drinking velvet...the tanins weren't there...the finish lasted a long time. It was a great bottle of wine. And today, my order from Duckhorn just arrived! In 2002 the wife and I flew to Napa for Duckhorn's 25th anniversay open house. There we barrel tasted their special 25th anniversary cuvee. It was amazing. I now have three bottles of the cuvee waiting to be put into the wine grotto when I get home... That wine will get consumed sometime after 2012... |
