Re: Pipe Tobaccos

I used to buy my pipe tobacco from "The Tobacco Barn" in California.
I was only able to buy 2 pounds at a time - Canadian Federal Rules for Civilians.

Those two pounds arrived in 2 zip-lock plastic bags in a blister envelope. 4 out of 5 purchases came straight to my door - for a cost including shipping, of $32.95 CDN & that was for a custom blend that was wonderful - for a pipe tobacco.

That price amounts to $1.03 per ounce, or $2.06 - all taxes and shipping included.

Here in Canada, the normal 2 ounce packets of pipe tobacco were priced at from $24.99 to $28.99. I wonder who was making ALL the money?

What about the 5th packet of 2 pounds of my favourite blend?

That one got stopped in customs and I had to pay the Federal Tariff fee of $150.00 for those 2 pounds - that once, every 5 orders.

$150.00 Tariff, + $32.95 = $5.72 per ounce for those 2 pounds of tobacco, or $11.43 per 2 ounce package, that in Canada cost $24.99 to $28.99 depending on the store where it was purchased.

So you can see why I NEVER bought any of the pipe tobacco available here - besides compared to most ALL of the tobacco from The Tobacco Barn, the commercial pipe tobacco up here is garbage.
