If youre looking to avoid speeding tickets, then I would suggest a Radar Detector. I havent seen any export limitations on them. Im a big fan of the ESCORT brand. If youre worried about it being seen or heat when youre not in the vehicle, they have a quick disconnect so it can at least be stored out of direct sunlight. Another alternative is one that is mounted behind the vehicle grill. The grill mounted versions have a much larger antenna, so they give better coverage.

WAZE is a free downloadable app for your phone that users contribute to for real time traffic conditions, and police locations. ESCORT also has a user real time system but there is a small fee.

Sadly portable GPS is becoming a dinosaur.
