Vehicle GPS

I am interested in getting a new GPS for my vehicles. No such thing as an onboard GPS in my "vintage" vehicles.

I used to have a Tom Tom device which was good but expensive to subscribe to. It melted on the NT trip with JB I think it was and stopped working. Had a year or two subs paid up!!!

Like most people went to a smart phone as a navigation device.

I am looking for something to tell me road speeds!!! I need it urgently after several fines and loss of demerit points. Will have several months of tender hooks of not speeding, and then three years of a slightly better position before getting back to normal. So want to be able to regularly double check the speed limit when driving. There are so many speed traps these days when one can speed without realising it.

A step up, looked at the MEMA gps's. Expensive. But possibly useful for real off road driving. Can download maps for "off road tracks", and also I believe topographical maps which might be useful for outback hunting trips when driving. These records if savable might be very useful over the years.

Anyone using HEMA or anything similar?

Good app for a smartphone for GPS and driving including road speeds?

Thanks.
