I put a red dot sight on my 10-22 Ruger as I thought it might be good for shooting field rats.
Not so - hated it - put a 6-18X Simmons back on the rifle and was happy again.
The IPSC shooters put them on their RACE guns - but they shoot close ranges only.
My opinion only.
Some guys must like them or they'd all be out of business.
