Leupold or Weaver 2 to 2 1/2X have never given me any problems on guns up to my .458 Alaskan. I see no reason to spend more than $250.00 to $300.00 on a low power fixed-power scope.
Hunted and load tested for over 28 years and in excess of 14,000 rounds with a 2 1/2 Weaver on a .458 2". An 8 pouind rifle, driving 510gr. Solids at 2,060fps does kick a bit. Never a lick of trouble with that scope. Rifle now, it's on my brother's .356 Winchester which makes 1 1/2", 5 shot groups at 100 meters.
I also used a borrowed 2X Leupold on the .458 Alaskan - again, no problems.
These scopes are so light, you need weight in the rifle itself, if it's a kicker.

Here's another vote for the 2 1/2x Leup. Iv'e used one on my 400-350 double for a few years and am happy with it.
Plenty of eye relief, it's light weight, and because of the low magnification it's not too bad in poor light, despite it's tiny objective lens diameter.

My 458 has been wearing a little 2 1/2x Leupold compact now for nearly twenty-five years and if there is a tougher scope I don't know what it would be.
