Buckbrush - I was just checking through a Lyman catologue and came across the moulds you spoke of. ; The 525gr. Lyman 12 bore sug sur looks promissing, I suspect it's about 16 bore as it fits inside a standard plastic wad. This might be a good bullet for smoothbores as well as rifled or paradox guns. Loading is easy as Lyman lists loads for it in their #3 through #5 books. ; It definitely looks like a worthwhile mould to buy. : Modifying the mould for a slightly heaver bullet would also be easy (if desired) by making the plunger just a bit shorter, increasing the weight of the nose. It's stock designed heavy, thick nose should work OK for penetration with the thin skirt acting like a weathercock, as in the normal, Foster slugs. If it shoots as well as RB's, it mught just be a good one. The only drawback is casting hollow based bullets compared to RB's. ; I also see in the catologue I must pick up a set of .45/75 dies. They'll be useable for the new barrel that's going on my M71/76 Mauser. |
