Hi Tony,
I should have included this in the description, the rifle is in fact a "paper case" chamber & bore. As you say, "pasteboard shells" (and "spherical bullets") were the usual thing in the early 1880's.
I have specially dimensioned (thick mouth) brass cases to allow proper fit to chamber and allow correct size ball.
