Eagle, the first shot shown went just behind the left shoulder and was poking through the skin on the point of the right, so I'm sure it broke it which is what caused the sudden fall. I thought I had some pictures of digging the ball out from the rubbery hide but couldn't find them.
The 2nd shot was behind the ear around the 7 o'çlock or 7:30 position and exited the right cheek. When it was going straight away I was hoping it would turn and show anything more vital than its hind quarters, so took the shot when it stuck its neck out. I totally agree that any decent solid (and probably most softs) would have certainly done exactly the same thing. Cheers, Bob
