I am finding it difficult to understand how the second barrel could discharge without having a firing pin strike.

Perhaps a very weak firing pin return spring, or no spring, allowed the pin under recoil, to slam forwards striking that primer? A loose pin?

Is this the ultimate reason (doubling) for the change to rebounding firing pins?
