Re: Shooting a 4-bore rifle

Very hardy sportsmen "back in the day"....

I had the pleasure (???) of shooting Ray Meyer's T. Bland 4 bore single shot out in California before he passed away; full 14 dram (380grains) black powder & 2000+grain conical bullet loads no less. Two shots @ 25 yards and hit the bull both times, the cloud of smoke is most impressive. I think the rifle weighed 19lbs if memory serves.
Makes a "common" 8 bore seem tame in comparison.

Cal Pappas tells me that the rifle is now living in Alaska and has made appearances at his double rifle shoot. I may need to try to attend one day and go for a replay.
