* BENTLEY & PLAYFAIR, BIRMINGHAM
A 4-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT BALL-GUN, serial no. K2659,
circa 1850, with heavy round 33 1/2in. barrel, flat sighting plane signed 'BIRMINGHAM', octagonal breech-section, dove-tailed bead fore-sight, dove-tail for rear-sight (missing), scroll engraved top-tang and breech-block, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'BENTLEY & PLAYFAIR', engraved hammer, walnut half-stock, iron furniture, provision for oval to underside of stock, square back trigger-guard with double-set 'hogs-bristle' trigger, white metal barrel key escutcheons and fore-end cap, provision for ramrod (missing), the whole darkly stained with some corrosion, weight 12 1/2lb.
