I was able to get out and shoot the King Kong 36" barrelled 2 bore today. We had a beautiful afternoon to go shooting. We used Pioneer FFG as the powder, which shoots about 15% hotter than black powder. I started with an equivalent black powder load of 225 grains and we worked up to a pretty stout load of 425 grain blk. pdr. equiv. load. According to my calculations, the max load we used pushed a 3500 grain ball to 1170 ft/sec for about 10600 ft.lbs of energy. The recoil was appx. 330 ft.lbs at 31 ft/sec. It kicked pretty hard. My chronograph crapped out before we were finished, but with past load data and our load progression today, we arrived at the above figures. I have some pictures posted on accurate .reloading.com under big bores, and have 4 short videos of us shooting the gun. I am currently having trouble getting the videos loaded to where they can be easily read on the computer. I am getting help tomorrow morning. If I can get it all together, can I email all the pictures and the 4 videos to someone to post here? Let me know if you can help out. thanks |
