Peter Hofer Just Exhibited a Smokeless 4 Bore at IWA
|
|
Peter Hofer just showed a modern 4 Bore firing a 2000 gr bullet propelled by smokeless powder at IWA. Not many details on this website, but I'm guessing there will be more information soon.

He really does make some fabulous kit that chap. His 12 bore O/U sidelever is the loveliest shotgun I have ever seen EXCEPT the embellishment on it. Saw a picture of it once in a magazine I think, made to celebrate some royals anniversary, canīt remember whose, best, Mike

I'm really having trouble with the engraving on that 4 bore- what the heck is it?? An Elephant with fangs? Just can't get it to make sense. Doug

Doug- I believe that is a very early Mastodon - can't remember it's name (was but a small child then;)) - however I think the ears are incorrect for that prehistoric beast.
It is weird.

I suppose if one has to carry extra weight for a .700 NE, carrying the weight as an extra barrel is one way of making it useful.

I haven't been able to find many IWA reviews, unfortunately, but friends who visited tell me that there were some very interesting traditional guns. Johan Fanzoj showed a rising bite rifle with a snap forward underlever action, Karl Hauptmann showed a new MAuser action in 5 sizes, Piotti showed a Magnum Mauser, and Jakele showed a complete hammer kipplauf made of traditional Damascus, but proofed for modern cartridges.I'll keep looking for reviews and pictures, but, if our expert members find any information, they would find these the best forums to post on.
Good hunting!

Hey Daryl,
Just to stem the confusion - I think it's a Deinoterium. Lived in Africa, the Middle east and Asia.
But yes, unusual choice! Hambruch has built a few .700 Nitros! a bolt action, a falling block, a double, and a triple! Geez!

Yes - that name pops out at me from my childhood Dinosaur book - memories - sometimes I just can't quite remember.

Hey Ash how you going? I was wondering if you know the name of the "weird" Rhino beast to the right of it. I have looked through my books and I was sure I had a photo somewhere but am curious now

Holland and Holland did a 4 Bore years ago to Celebrate Everything ! ,it was engraved with Tyrannosaurus ,Pterodactyls etc ,the foresight was a small lizard, came with a display case with ammo and real fossils, maybe Hofer is expanding on that one by having Mega Fauna instead !there were alot of different looking elephant species back then
