I've taken both grizzlies and black bear with doubles, no problems, and think they're the "cat's meow" for bear situations and hunting. As far as the cold being a problem, it's not. Your only problem could be keeping the snow off as it would melt and then freeze. My cure has been a leather cover over the action as used on flintlocks. ~Arctic~
