This deserves a bump back to the top. In the States, we have a real problem with coyotes and mountain lions are also becoming a problem. Coyotes will travel solitary or in groups, and will decimate smaller livestock and newborn horses. My sister has a farm in West Virginia, with horses and a few smaller critters. One of the first things in her farm collection was a mule. I asked her if she was trying to make a statement. She explained to me that mules, and donkeys, are better than a pack of Rotweillers. She said they would kill any predator coming into their range. And there are more than a few coyote carcasses on her farm to support that. A stallion will also do the same thing. But most stallions are turned into geldings due to their aggressive nature. A mule cares not. It is sterile, which is probably why it kicks ass. |
