Re: What is the quintessential American firearm?

Well this is an interesting thread, to say the least. How about the M-1 Grand from The Springfield Armory? Ok John Grand was Canadian not matter. The rifle was so good that the Federal Goverment still has some 2 to 4 million of them still in storage. Never shot. They even sell some to us peons from time to time. Its been 40 or so years since army when to the Mattel. They keep the M-1 at great expense, in storage, when almost every thing else goes to the scrap metal dealers. Says a lot about a rifle.
