I've a "bear"(or anything) hunting/stopping load for my m1886/71. 450gr. Hard Cast Bullet Barn Flat Nose @ 1,800fps. You are right, John. The article assumes the reader also reads the mind of the author, but reads as a surprise attack by a bear. I would suggest a 12 bore with slugs would be best for the close range attack, if easily brought to bear. This was also Gary Shelton's suggestion for Forestry Staff protection. If a shotgun or heavy handgun could not be carried, then a knife with at least 12" of blade. These suggestions were for a person working in the bush, not hunting. |
