A common feature of a lot of bear attack tales, seems to be, wen the victim is able to get shots off and hit it irrespective of the handgun, or rifle. even if badly mauled, the bear leaves off. It does not result in death. At least in many cases.

Agree, in most cases I have read when hit they change their attitude and divert to another area.. have talked to as well as read dozens of situations where that has happened.. Have to say, IF a bear was on me, I would not be that comfortable if my buddies were shooting the bear at that point. Have read where that didn't always end so well for the individual under the bear..
