Re: Ideal back country rifle?

I believe backcountry is just remote, undeveloped areas. Hunting those areas involves a lot of walking or perhaps horseback. As Ripp points out, light weight gear is a benefit. As I get somewhat older, light weight hunting gear is more and more appealing.

100% agree--- Have had lighter rifles now for almost 20 years.. IF I am spending a week or more out in the mtns, back packing and hunting..its as light as I can go for that period.. IF it's just a day hunt at the ranch, it doesn't matter as much.. but, I now have so many nice light guns the older heavy's are staying put .. with the exception of my 338RUM.. LOVE that rifle for elk hunting.. exceptionally accurate, easy to shoot and drops elk like none other..
