Bit more wallop than the .30-06 when heavier bullets are loaded, and similar performance with similar weight bullets, given that I am talking actual hunting, not long-range sniping! Bit like a .318 WR with modern easily-available components. In terms of general usefulness, and the bulk of game taken in Oz with North American cartridges, it is the .308 Win by a country mile!
