Slough grass was poor, coarse feed though, so they grew and bailed oats for them as well. At one time, in the 60's they had about 3,000 head, on 25 sections.
I am familiar with that area--our family farm was about an hour south of the border from there..similar..based on your figures about- that's around 5.3 acres per cow..would be higher here in Montana--more around 7-8 I believe..been off the farm a llllooonnnggg time but seems about right..
