how was it done? they were riding with a 3-5 greyhounds on the side so long as they see a cojote than chase him till the end? I have no imagination how long a coyote can run of such hounds.
More or less, you got it.
This was in the Sandhills region of Nebraska and jumping coyotes was not really that hard. Once the yote bayed up it was a melee and the yote invariably lost.
The coyotes in your pics are in pretty good shape tho many get torn up. Shot with shotguns or a .22, .25-20 or .32-20 and they aren't in bad shape at all if you can keep the dogs off them.
I do not know if anyone does that much anymore?
I know here now we have more experience with wolves, a pack of hound CAN kill a wolf. Trouble is...if a pack is running one and he joins up with a few friends, it is big trouble for the hounds.
My Dad and uncle used to chase down fox in the day and shoot them with their little .22's..saw pics of them years ago when I was back home...
As to the horses...as kids we rode our pony's every day..and did pretty much whatever with them we could imagine from chasing cattle into the next pasture to playing cowboys and indians (oopps probably shouldn't say that in todays world) ..but we could stand on all three of ours ..however we had a Palomino stud that was all jacked up ..never ever tried it on him...
As to chasing coyotes..now days, prefer to use the modern horse called the snowmobile..much more efficient.. pull up behind them with a sawed off 12 gauge..adjust for the running ..done..
