Just in case newbies read this, a .22 centrefire is NOT recommended for deer sized animals. One needs to be very careful of the shot. If you blow off the beasts jaw, you will loose it and it will starve to death. Hit a too heavy bone in the chest and the bullet may break up on the surface. Another wounded deer lost.

I have lots of deer with a .22 Mag, and .222 some in the wild, a lot in controlled conditions, and they will work well, but real accuracy is needed. Deer flick their heads around a lot so it isn't like shooting a fox in a spotlight.

Re the main discussion, being old fashioned I'd like a .220 Swift.
