The photography was lackluster, but the day was glorious. After last weekends snow and mud, we returned to find a few ruts to traverse and very few hunters. This second week on the east season is better that way, better weather and far fewer hunters. Game may be a bit shy, but......... We set a leisurely pace for the day, knowing we where not hunting for the wall, but for the freezer. After some exploring and our noon meal on a picturesque bluff we resumed the hunt. Not long after a band of suicidal young bucks stared us down, dared us if you will. The one presenting the best shot angle remained and the rest fled. Field processing and recovery ensued and we where off to another area for Mama's tag. Only a few minutes in, through a narrow vantage point I thought I saw 2 Pronghorn. We stalk back and sure enough there are 2 bedded bucks. We make a stalk and crawl into the sage on a adjacent bluff. Mama makes a wonderful shot on the bigger of the 2. No classics where used in the harvest this season so far. Mama is using her tried and true Weatherby .240 and I had another Weatherby in 6.5x284 |
