Elk are pretty tough and packing them out is a lot of work. I once spent 5 days of a 7 day hunt packing out my little 4x3 4 miles from the trail head.

Dropping them in or near there tracks is the ticket. 300 Waetherby and 200gr Nosler Partitions might be ideal. Good out to 400.
