Ripp: Southwestern Montana is beginning to really suck for hunting! I covered 30+ miles and made 8 or 9 stands. I cut one black bear track (two to three days old), in what was at one time prime big game country. I was using a Fox-pro eletronic call and tried several of the different calls. wounded fawn, coyote, etc. I don't have a wolf howling call, think I might get one. We have had recient rains so the ground is soft and fresh tracks should be easily found, none were seen. On the way home I saw one mule deer doe and a group of 6-8 cows and calves on private property along a well used paved road, but I did get into the woods and enjoyed that, it seems the older I get the less I tend to get out. My hunting partner of 50+ years lives over in the beaverhead and we can't always get together as much as we would like. I have access to some private property in the Big Hole that I might try on tomorrow, if I get my honeydo's completed today. Bob |
