Dieter Herbert has a lot to be thankful for. The 18-year-old Long Island, N.Y., native shot his first black bear over Thanksgiving weekend – and the big bruiser could very well be the biggest taken in New York. The big bear, shot in Greene County, N.Y., with a Remington Model 7 in .308, weighed 520 pounds gutted, placing the bear’s live weight over 600 pounds, with the skull measuring a rough 22 inches. Not bad at all for his first bruin, and Herbert was happy to share the details with Petersen’s Hunting. http://www.petersenshunting.com/2011/11/30/teen-takes-possible-no-1-new-york-black-bear/ Ripp |
