I've seen various sources cite an old .50-110 Win load of 300 grain bullet at 2200 fps as usable in the Win 1886. This was the load "standard" we were looking to achieve, and we got pretty close with a bullet of higher sectional density.

That old .50-cal Win load must have been a bomb, a real light switch on broadside-shot elk and deer!
