Now this is an interesting post. First, good for the wolf. Kill them all, every last one as far as I'm concerned. Now...lion actually on a per-predator basis kill more ungulates than individual wolves do. Lion kill on average 1 deer per week, wolves, about 15-20 ungulates per year. And yes, larcher, mountain lion's main prey is deer, not elk. They get big on volume, not size. In fact, lion kill from the studies I've read, relatively few elk, and that mostly calves. Lion are very careful and hunt alone. An injured lion is a dead lion. That may drive their oveall concentration on smaller species. They would wreak holy hell on your roedeer, that's for sure. Lion are much easier to manage, tho, and for that reason are not the threat to our game populations that wolves are. Here's my son's from a few weeks ago, shot on my ranch here; ![]() |
