Just read an article this weekend in a magazine called MONTANA JOURNAL I believe...it stated when this entire debacle started..the wolf lovers just wanted 300 ..no more no less...and brought suit after suit to get their way...now, per the magazine article, there are over 3000...and guess what, that number is now enough either and again, everyone is being sued to stop even the modest hunting going on now.. The articles also suggested the current hunt is a joke as it would only take out 10% of the current estimated population..where the wolves are known to increase their numbers by 20 to 30% per year..so the effect of the current hunt numbers will have nil effect on the total population... Finally per my earlier post it stated the northern herd population of 20,000 plus in 1996 is at or below 4,000...furthermore, in the Gallatin canyon the herd was once around 1800, current estimates are at 200 or less..keep in mind, the game numbers before the wolves were sustainable..however in a very short time the herds are now 1/5 to 1/7th of what they once were...they truly are a plaque and need to be eradicated asap...
