Re: Hunting Wolves

Even if 10-80 is used, you cannot eliminate the wolf. Strychnine seems to work for a short time only, due to it's smell. They quickly avoid it. If reduced through poisoning enough, the wolf becomes so fearful of man, he won't cross a man's path - whether the man is in or on a vehicle or not.

We found out in the 50's with a full scale poisoning program, they cannot be erradicated, only reduced in numbers to the point it takes 20 years for them to become 'bad' again.

Tigers, Lions and Leopards pale in comparrison to the timber wolf in style of breeding that produces the rate of population exploasion common to well few wolves.

The run at night, every night, rain, snow or clear. In the North, come spring, with thaws and freezes, the crust on the snow lets them run a-top of the surface, while the ungulates wallow in 4' of snow. It is this time, the wolves will kill herded elk, moose and deer by the tens, just for fun.

People normally think of wolves as being the same or slightly larger German Shephard dogs. That may be so elsewhere - these wolves are not those stunted varieties. Picture 125 to 175 pounders, with 1 3/4" of canines protruding from their jaws. They are killing machines.
