Re: Urbanites explore the Primal Lure of Hunting

I can identify.

It just struck me that I am an urbanite that explored the primal lure of hunting into a life right smack dab into the middle of my beloved "nowhere"!

Granted, I left New Jersey when I was 18 and never looked back, but it just goes to show ya that it does happen to some of us. I guess there's hope!

I was raised as a boy on the foot of Mt Tamalpias here in the SF Bay Area.
My brother and I would chase fawn through the trails that went through our back yard (while out on Bay Leaf/Rosemary gathering chores for our Great Grandmother) every day.
We'd take 20+mile hikes to the lakes to fish and catch crawdads three-four times a week.
At the same time of my life I'd spend at least a couple days a week in downtown San Francisco.

At this time in life I'm done with the urban crap - and I want to get my kids a lot further away from what's happening here around Oakland and SF.
Still we're a short walk from a live creek and we spend quite a bit of family time on cattle management land out on the ranch.
I do all I can to keep the kids grounded in the soil and all it's wonders.
I think I'm fortunate to have had the coaxial exposure to wilderness and metropolis through the full course of my life.

Cheers
