A friend and I will be heading to NM this winter for my first and his second elk hunt. We're thinking central/northwest NM is the best place to be.

Any advice or tips? Any guides or outfitters that you've used and would recommend? We want a wilderness hunt, tented, lots of hard work. Probably will not use horses because of cost. He self guided 2 years ago and got a cow on public land, but this year we're hoping for good bulls and will be using a guide.

I'll be using my 7x57 Mauser with 175 grain Remington CoreLokt's, by the way.
