The more I shoot this rifle/cartridge the more I like it. All the criticism I heard about the .264 has turned out to be basically...wrong. I was skeptical about the caliber until my buddy kept twisting my arm about it {he owns 3}, and then we used his rifle to test the bullets in the Boards and Jugs and I was impressed. I've always like Remington Core-Lokts and these didn't disappoint. I failed to photo the carcass on this one, but the "in" hole was about 1 inch in diameter and the "out" about 2. A rib shattered going in and two ribs shattered going out, and the lungs were pulped. Very little bloodshot meat and the loss was only a few ounces. On similar shots with the .270 and PMP 130 grain bullets, the sides would have been heavily bloodshot. At 50 yards, the bullet is still clipping over 2900 fps. On the whole, I like the Hawkeye, too, except that the skinnier forearm is giving me a challenge for making a side sling. The old MKII's had the thicker forestock and were easier to modify. Gotta get a wolf with this thing. A friend just shot one a couple miles from the house here, from a treestand. |
