What do you attach the sling to on the gun ?

500: Depends. Some, mere screw-on sling studs on the side. Some a stud countersunk to embed the nut on the other side {really stout affair, I use that for skiing}.

Here; Left, Ruger 6.5x55, my Skigun, embedded sling swivel studs. Slings hooked to a QD sling attachment. Right, my CZ550. I used two Swedish M96 sling swivels on this one. Both of them are rear buttstock military sling swivels. I had my gunsmith friend blue them.
