Gophers May 2009 - inclement weather, snow, hail, rain kept us from shooting for a couple days, and also kept the little buggers underground. We did manage a few days of shooting though. Len points out a silouetted gopher so I made an attempt to photo him showing windage at the rifle and elevation for a 245yard shot. Rifle's in one pic are my .17Ah and .17HMR. I managed a bragging 174yard offhand shot on a gopher using my .17HMR in another location along with a number of ofhand shots around 120 yards, along with a 244 yard shot(resting ona fence post with the same rifle. Not bad for a rimfire, Eh. I don't think I pounded more than 600-700 gophers this trip for the 3 days of shooting we had, but had a good time when it wasn't snowing, hailing or raining. In counting up my empties, AH's cases as well as empty 17HMR boxes, the above numbers are about right. This trip usually sees around 1,500 gophers biting the dust - grass or snow.
