Quote: Thanks to all. Peter: Re: Horses, sometimes. Sometimes not. This hunt took place about 3 miles from home. If I ride there it takes a lot longer to get there and then I have to tie the critter and hope nobody else comes by and shoots it, loosens hobbles, unties it, etc. If I trailer it, I can let it stand in the trailer, but then have to climb down off the mountain to get it a couple miles away {closest I can get to the trailer}. Plus, inside the timber, there is a lot of stuff on the ground {blowdowns, etc} and some of these must be cleared for the horses. In fact, sometimes it is more work to clear stuff for the horses than it is to leave it in place. This drag was between 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile and took me a few hours to get it to within the last 125 or so feet to rope and cable where I winched it up to the ATV. No way I could have dragged it myself up to the ATV. I've quartered deer before, and nearly did so with this one. Basically, we make it up as we go along. ![]() |
