A recessive gene doesn't necessarily make someting 'bad' genetics. A white animal may not be a true albino as well, so just because it looks white does not mean it is weak. As trophy hunters, humans are prone to shoot the unique first, for instance, blond or cinnamon bears get shot first, etc.
