Once in a life\time event, I suppose. 2 of my buddies were bow hunting elk - longbows - and Len called in 5 grizzlies - came in from three directions to stop 20 feet in front of the lead shooter. Dave figured he was dead when a big boar came over to look him over. Len didn't even know they were there until they winded him and took off - as they ran past, he could have touched each with his bow tip. Sometimes they don't bite, sometimes they do. We can't legally carry handguns either - although I suspect some do. Dave and Len don't bow hunt any more. When sitting down on his fairly low 'blind' chair, the boar's head was taller than Daves as it looked down into his eyes from about 10 feet. Dave 6'1" tall. Bears aren't always a problem. They like to fish too. ![]() |
