A lad at Hefley Creek Rendezvous placed in the top 5, for the Quigley shoot, one year, shooting that 560gr. Prichert with 90gr. 2F, seems to me, just over 3 1/4 drams.
The event was offhand, 800yards to the steel plate (bunch of saw blades welded together), making a target about 6' high and 3feet wide. His target, with the bullet falling at quite an angle was a mite smaller.
The range to the plate, horizontal range, that is, was about 700yards. The winner was shooting #457125 Lyman bullet out of an original Springfield 1884 model.
The other runners-up in the top 5 were 3 Sharps rifles, all chambered either .45/70 or .45 2.4".
About 20 contestants all together. It was nice to see Merlin in the top 5 with his 3 band Enfield. They fired 10 shots. Merlin did not need to wipe his bore during the shooting but the ctg. gun shooters had to.
Fun event.
Even the old model 1853 Enfield demands respect shooting against the modern 1880's "stuff".
800 yards off hand??? THAT is one hell of a shot..WOW...
Furthest I have ever shot off hand is 780.. KIDDING..
Seriously, that is remarkable..
